Vegan Hot Dog with Grilled Plant-Based Sausage
A satisfying street-food-style vegan hot dog loaded with smoky plant-based sausage (or plant based kebabs), crisp vegetables, tangy pickles, and a bright mustard finish. Simple to assemble, yet packed with layered flavor and texture.
Ingredients
- Wanted Vegan or Nadura kebab
- Hot dog buns
- Mustard
- Ketchup (optional)
Fresh Toppings
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced into rings
- 1 tomato, sliced into rounds
- Pickles, finely diced
- Marinated shredded carrots (or similar pickled vegetable mix)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Sausages
Remove the vegan sausages from their packaging.
Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the sausages on the pan and cook, turning regularly, until evenly browned with clear grill marks on all sides.
Set aside once fully heated through.
2. Prepare the Vegetables
Slice the red onion into thin rings for a sharp, crisp bite.
Cut the tomato into even slices.
Dice the pickles into small, uniform pieces for easy topping distribution.
3. Assemble the Hot Dogs
Open each hot dog bun gently without tearing it.
Start with a layer of marinated shredded carrots placed along the base of the bun.
Add tomato slices, followed by red onion rings for freshness and crunch.
Place the grilled vegan sausage into the bun, pressing it lightly so it sits securely.
Top with diced pickles for tang and texture contrast.
Finish with a generous zigzag of mustard across the top. Add ketchup if desired.
Serving
Serve immediately while the sausage is warm and the bun is soft. Best enjoyed fresh with all toppings layered just before eating.
Tips
- Pre-warming the buns slightly can improve overall texture.
- A hot grill pan helps achieve better caramelization on the sausage.
- You can swap shredded carrots for cashew parmesan cheese or pickled cabbage for extra tang.
